Your Subconscious Mind

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

The subconscious mind like a huge memory database. Its capacity is virtually unlimited, and it permanently stores everything that has ever happened to you. By the time you're 21, you've already permanently stored more than a hundred times the contents of the entire Encyclopedia Britannica.

Our brain works much like a computer. Our thoughts, words and images are stored there like a program; our mind alone decides what it believes and what it does not.

Our life experiences thus shape whether we react to situations with negative or perhaps even irrational thoughts. Many negative thoughts and

worries are based on deeper-lying beliefs or assumptions about ourselves, other people and situations - often these experiences are shaped from our early childhood. What is fatal is that the subconscious accepts the evaluation as true and causes corresponding actions.

Many people had teachers in school who marked the mistakes in class work with red. There was then a part underlined in red, but usually the larger part without marking - but we were focused by the markings on the mistakes, not on the large part that we had done correctly. These early school experiences shaped our view of work results in meritocracy. We are focused on mistakes and deficits and do not see what was successful and what we could be grateful for. For most of us, this continues into our professional lives.

The greatest task of your mind is to keep you alive, not to make you happy. It does that by keeping you away from anything you ever associated pain with! Your brain stores memories with a good, but also painful emotion as a "program" and will remind you in the future of what you stored then with every trigger.

Like with Google, with every new experience, encounter, and thought, you receive feedback in a fraction of a second as to whether there is already an existing program for it.

The result of this unconscious query determines whether you continue with something or rather leave it again, whether you let people get close to you or not, whether you accept a thought or something said or not. No matter in which area of your life. So you are always safe!

That is actually a super filter system and it runs in addition completely automatically, and/or completely unconsciously, so that you must decide nothing at all consciously. You just react as always according to what you know. Very time-saving and clever, but there is a catch.

Your subconscious mind works like a computer, it accepts every conclusion you input and it stores it for you as soon as you give the command (strong emotion). It doesn't matter if you type "I am stupid" or "I am intelligent". For your computer both are equal, right and true. It does not distinguish between truth and lie. Here is the first problem, your subconscious doesn't either! Besides, most of what is on your hard drive was not really programmed by you.

During your first six or so years of life, you lived only in your emotional mind, the seat of all emotions. Your conscious mind has not yet developed until then. Everything you experience during this time and what you are told and taught, what you experience as facts in your family and your environment, what shapes you emotionally positively and negatively, is stored with a kind of label, or file name, or also called belief set, on your hard drive called subconscious (long-term memory) and thus a standard program is created that controls the processes in your life in the future.

All the conclusions and interpretations you draw at this point are unshakable truths for you and permanent. They form your firewall, your emotional shield.

However, you stored them when you were just a few years on this planet and still knew very little, you actually only felt. Negative thought patterns will eventually become like a virus on your hard drive, growing more and more noticeable in your adult life. Your system needs an update like any operating system, because circumstances have changed. You are no longer a child and now live an independent life! Your subconscious needs new info!
